In Colombia, there is a tradition where grandmothers and mothers gift their children a handmade braid decorated with beans and seeds. This braid is hung in the kitchen to ensure abundance in life and food. I created my version of these braids by incorporating something I don’t have as much of as I would like: hair. Through my work as an artist, I have transformed my experience with alopecia from suffering to acceptance.
