Did you know that in some states, you don’t even need a master's degree or a clinical practicum to work as a speech therapist? Our profession is a patchwork of inconsistent standards. This isn't due to sloppiness. It's the result of decades of incremental problem-solving by state departments of education and licensing boards who were never equipped to manage defining clinical competence. In this episode of Inside SLP, we look at the structural gap between our degrees and our clinical training, and why that gap forced states to make up the rules as they went along.
