Volcano snails, scientifically called scaly foot gastropods, live near deep sea hydrothermal vents where temperatures can reach around 400°C. Unlike most animals, their shells are reinforced with iron sulfide, forming a natural armor. They also have iron coated scales on their foot, which help protect them from harsh chemicals and predators. These snails rely on symbiotic bacteria for nutrition, surviving without sunlight. Their unique biology makes them one of the most extreme and resilient creatures on Earth.
