That glowing ring is a protoplanetary disk around the young star PDS 70, located about 370 light years away. The bright spot inside the gap is PDS 70b, a giant planet still forming. Astronomers captured this rare moment using the Very Large Telescope, directly imaging a newborn world. Even more fascinating, the planet is surrounded by its own disk of gas and dust, a circumplanetary disk where future moons may be taking shape right now. Want more interesting content like this ?
