The original notebooks of Marie Curie are still radioactive more than a century later. While studying radium and polonium in the late 1890s, she handled these elements without protective gear, unaware of the long term dangers. The radioactive particles contaminated her lab notes and even her personal cookbook. Today, her notebooks are stored in lead lined boxes at the National Library of France, and anyone who wants to view them must wear protective clothing because they remain hazardous.
