This is the kind of advice I think every parent of a child with a disability needs to hear ⤵️ When we were early in our journey, I thought that if I grieved the life I expected with my daughter, it meant I wasn't fully embracing the one we DO have. But the truth is, both can coexist. Grief for the expectations I once held. Joy for the beautiful, unexpected life we're living. Allowing myself to hold space for both has been one of the most freeing lessons I've experienced. So this is your reminder that it's okay if you're hit with waves of grief amongst the joy - it doesn't mean you love your child any less. Have you ever felt grief and joy at the same time?
