Make the request in writing (emails count)!!
This serves as proof that you made the request on a specific date, and your child's IEP team must legally hold the meeting within a set number of days after your request is made.
So why might you request an IEP meeting early?
➡️ You believe your child's needs have changed
➡️ You have concerns about how the IEP is being implemented across people or settings
➡️ Your child is struggling more than expected or not making progress toward their goals
➡️ You're concerned the current plan isn't supporting them fully
➡️ Your child received a new diagnosis or has had a major life change that is impacting school
Or really any other concerns you have - they're valid!!
By being proactive and requesting a meeting as these things come up, you're helping to ensure your child gets the support they need *when* they need it - rather than waiting for the next meeting on the calendar!
