Researchers at the University of Michigan have built Prima, an AI model trained on more than 220,000 MRI studies and 5.6 million imaging sequences collected over decades of clinical care.
Prima can analyze brain MRI scans and produce diagnostic assessments in seconds. In tests on nearly 30,000 MRI exams, it performed well across 52 neurological conditions, flagged urgent cases like strokes or brain hemorrhages, and suggested the right specialist referrals.
The team says the system could help cut diagnostic delays and ease radiologist shortages, though it still needs further validation before broad clinical use.
