The longest-standing barrier in Nigerian digital commerce has finally collapsed. As of Tuesday, January 27, 2026, PayPal has officially gone live with inbound payment services in Nigeria through a landmark partnership with local fintech leader Paga. This historic shift ends nearly two decades of restricted service, during which Nigerians could only send money but never receive it. Under this new integration, Nigerian freelancers, content creators, and SMEs can now link their PayPal accounts directly to their Paga wallets, enabling them to receive payments from over 200 countries and 400 million global users. Notably, the deal also includes interoperability with Venmo, allowing US-based clients to send funds directly to Nigerian PayPal accounts for the first time.
