Abu Dhabi has officially entered the era of autonomous urban mobility today, January 17, 2026. Following the acquisition of a fully driverless commercial permit in late 2025, Baidu’s Apollo Go and UAE-based AutoGo (a subsidiary of Kintsugi Holding) have commenced live, fully autonomous ride-hailing services on Yas Island. For the first time, residents and visitors can download the AutoGo app to hail a vehicle with no human driver behind the wheel. This commercial launch is not merely a pilot; it marks the first phase of a strategic roadmap to deploy hundreds of driverless vehicles across the emirate by the end of 2026, with planned expansions into Reem, Al Maryah, and Saadiyat Islands coming next.
