Rome is a lot — in every sense of the word. Some friends have been asking me what it was like, especially with all the queues and waiting around. Honestly, the only times we had to wait excessively were for the Pope’s Mass (we accidentally joined that line — but it turned out to be a lovely surprise!) and for the Holy Door at St. Peter’s Basilica, where we spent an hour in the wrong queue. Rome isn’t like Dubai — there are no clear signs, and even the people who are supposed to know often don’t. Most of them don’t speak English either 🤷‍♀️ For everything else, I pre-booked tickets and just showed up 90, 60, or 30 minutes before the scheduled time, which meant we could walk straight in. At every entrance, they check the ID of the person who made the booking, so using my own card (and not my husband’s 😅) was definitely the right call.
