Picture this from high above Earth… 🌍 A country-wide tsunami racing across the ocean — hundreds of kilometres across, a massive wall of water heading toward land. 🌊 It would be devastating if it ever happened. But the interesting part is… nature makes something like that almost impossible. Tsunamis form when the seafloor suddenly moves during an earthquake. But even very powerful earthquakes only shift sections of the seabed by a few metres, not hundreds. That movement pushes water outward as long, spreading waves. As the energy spreads across the ocean, it becomes lower and wider, not taller and taller. For a tsunami hundreds of kilometres wide and towering across an entire country, the ocean floor would need to move far more violently than our planet’s tectonic plates are capable of. So while tsunamis can still be incredibly dangerous along coasts, the idea of a giant country-wide wall of water sweeping across land simply doesn’t match the physics of Earth’s oceans. Still ...
