This year’s Indigenous Peoples Celebration Unity Game art piece is a one-of-one handcrafted drum by Nimkii-nini (Thunder-Man) Osawamick. Nimkii was inspired by the matriarchs in his life and by his daughter’s response to seeing women represented on the ice—an experience that reshaped her understanding of what is possible in sport. The drum reflects the importance of representation, visibility, and belonging, while honouring Indigenous teachings and the growing impact of women’s hockey.  Earlier this year, Nimkii also created another handcrafted “Dewe’igan” hand drum, which was gifted to our team by the Little Native Hockey League. In Indigenous cultures, the hand drum is a sacred symbol, carrying the heartbeat of Mother Earth and the spirit of unity. Its sound brings people together, offering healing, strength, and connection. This gift represents more than tradition - it is a gesture of reconciliation and inclusion.
