Going from 82 to touching 90 isn’t random.
When Joe started with VeloU last winter, he was topping out at 82, sitting 79 to 81. One year later, he’s touching 90 and heading into the season with a defined pitch profile.
During his on-site evaluation, two things stood out:
• At front foot strike, his elbow sat very low for his arm slot
• His center of mass was drifting forward too early
The decision wasn’t to overhaul his delivery. Joe has a naturally jumpy move down the mound. We didn’t want to remove it. We wanted to organize it.
Remotely, we used abbreviated flip-up positions to bring the elbow closer to shoulder height and clean up alignment at foot strike. We lengthened his leg lift to keep him taller and more patient, which helped control early forward drift.
From a physical standpoint, power output improved as well. That gave the delivery something to work with.
