On mile 2,805 of our travels in 2026, we visited Burlington, VT, to catch the newest “derby” in America between Vermont Green and Portland Hearts of Pine. It was a dream matchup for all those obsessed with American soccer. We even heard there were 10,000 ticket requests (!) for just 2,000 seats at Virtue Field. For a long time, we’d always felt like these two sides were the perfect representation of what soccer can be on our shores. So we knew we had to make the drive north to witness it in person.
