In Barefoot Water Ski Jumping, the take off edge of the jump ramp is 18 inches above the surface of the water, and the jump is approximately five feet wide.
Jumpers must start from the water without skis and proceed up to and over jump, land on the other side of the jump, and stand up into barefoot skiing position by a buoy marker know as the "ride out buoy".
Jumpers are judged solely on distance, and have three attempts to go over the jump, with the longest recorded jump being the high score for the event. High tech video recording systems now ensure that the instant and accurate jump distances are available to the spectators, skier and judges.
Barefoot water ski jumping is an extremely exciting event, with the top skiers now going inverted off the end of the jump and reaching distances in excess of 90 feet.
