By every conventional measure — I was doing exactly what I was supposed to. But somewhere between the ward rounds and the prescription pads, I started noticing something I couldn’t unfeel. The same patients. Coming back. Again and again. Different medications. Same suffering. And nobody was asking why. We were managing. We weren’t healing. And after a decade inside the system, I knew — this wasn’t the medicine I signed up for. So I walked away from specialist training. Not because I stopped believing in medicine — but because I understood, for the first time, what it was actually designed for. Acute care. Emergencies. Trauma. It is extraordinary at that.
