Rome has its own Hall of Mirrors, and almost nobody knows it. One of the largest private art collections in Rome, and the family that built it still lives here today. The ceiling frescoes were painted between 1731 and 1734. The Venetian mirrors were designed to create the illusion of infinite space. At the end of the corridor hangs what some historians consider the greatest portrait ever painted, Velázquez’s Pope Innocent X. Most visitors go straight to the Vatican or the Colosseum.
