Running a full iOS dev setup on an M1 Pro (16 GB) and it still performs really well (check the second image).
Xcode building a SwiftUI app, iOS + iPad simulators running, LLDB debugging attached, Chrome with ~10 tabs, Windsurf, Antigravity, ChatGPT, Spotify, some other apps - all at the same time.
macOS uses compression and swap aggressively, but the system stays responsive. Builds are quite fast, simulators are smooth, and context switching feels almost instant. You can also bake an egg on the MacBook surface, but fans are quite silent or not even starting in most cases.
This is a good example of how Apple Silicon handles real-world dev workloads. High swap usage doesn’t automatically mean bad performance - memory pressure and responsiveness matter more.
