This #MuseumMonday, we are taking a look back at the 1899 Cutler Plat Map, surveyed by Dr. Samuel Richmond as part of the historic Cutler and Perrine Land Grant Area. Each numbered square represents an early pioneer lot, including Lot 76, home of the Addison family, and Lot 77, the original site of the now beloved Richmond Cottage. This carefully drawn map captures the early layout of the pioneer town of Cutler long before the landscape transformed into what we know today. In fact, the modern Deering Estate occupies Lots 1–17 and 19–79, meaning much of this hand drawn community forms the foundation of the preserve’s present-day footprint. It’s a rare look at how South Dade’s early settlements were envisioned and how their legacy still shapes the land.
