The voice behind the WWF signature was Jim Fagan, a West Virginia University graduate who built a career doing voiceover work for the NFL, the Olympics, and the World Wrestling Federation. Most wrestling fans never knew his name but heard his voice at the start of every show for years. Basketball fans know him just as well. Fagan narrated the NBA on NBC from 1990 to 2002, the same era that produced Michael Jordan’s championships, Shaquille O’Neal’s rise, and the peak of the league’s mainstream popularity. His voice was considered so inseparable from that era that when NBC reclaimed NBA broadcasting rights in 2025, the network used AI voice synthesis technology with the approval of Fagan’s family to recreate his voice for show opens and promos. He passed away in 2017 at age 72. #WWE #Wrestling #WWF #RetroWrestling #NBAonNBC
