Following on from my story last night, I still can’t quite get over the sheer number of people who stared. The nudges to their other halves. The blatant looks up and down. I’m not usually bothered by what people think. And honestly, I didn’t even consider my outfit to be particularly extravagant or “extra.” It was a colourful co-ord on a sunny evening abroad. That’s it. And yet… last night made me feel uncomfortable. Uncomfortable in an outfit I actually love. At one point, a man sitting in a restaurant literally pointed at me and told his wife to look. So I looked straight back at them, waved, and said hello, because why on earth should I be the one who feels embarrassed? I wasn’t asking anyone to wear my outfit. I wasn’t inviting commentary, and wasn’t doing anything outrageous, not like I was urinating up a tree or starting a fight! Just wearing a co ord and exiting in full colour!
