☘️Fun Fact Friday: With St. Patrick’s Day just around the corner, we’re highlighting a piece of Saratoga Springs’ history that reflects the journey and contributions of Irish immigrants in our community. Researching for the 2022 Historic Homes tour led us to uncover its fascinating history!⁠ ⁠ Built in 1870 by John W. Case and his wife Elizabeth, the house has ties to a pivotal moment in American history. John Case was not only a Civil War veteran but also a survivor of the notorious Andersonville prison camp. He was one of the survivors and key witnesses of the prison camp who testified in the trial of Captain Henry Wirz for war crimes. After the war, he a was a police officer for Saratoga Springs. ⁠ ⁠ In 1884, the home was purchased by Patrick Quinlan, an Irish immigrant from Limerick, who arrived in the U.S. at just 18 years old.
