✨ Bright. 🐸 Tiny. 🌈 Lively with color. Harlequin toads are often called the jewels of the neotropics, flashing colors that dazzle the rainforest! But while colorfully striking, they are disappearing. More than 75% of these species are threatened with extinction, pushed to the brink by disease, habitat destruction, and a rapidly changing climate. And when they disappear, it’s not just a single species we lose. Harlequin toads play a critical role in their ecosystems—the life support systems of our planet—and are often the first to indicate when there is a serious threat to clean water and healthy forests. This World Frog Month, we’re celebrating the brilliance of harlequin toads, and the people working to ensure their colors don’t fade away.
