“As an academic, a police officer and a First Nations woman, I believe that when education becomes systemic, reconciliation becomes sustainable.” As the daughter of a Sixties Scoop Survivor and granddaughter of a Residential School Survivor, Shaina Lynden knows firsthand the devastating impact of colonial policies on Indigenous families, communities and culture. As a police officer, she also knows what it’s like to be on the frontlines of difficult and traumatic situations. This unique perspective and a passion for education has led Lynden to create, build and facilitate one of the most comprehensive and successful Indigenous Cultural Competency Education Courses for policing in the country.
