Meet Lilybeth Berberabe, Visitor Services Volunteer and 9/11 survivor. On 9/11, Lilybeth was an employee in the payroll department at Morgan Stanley, located on the 46th floor of the South Tower. Her husband worked nearby in the Financial District, and they were able to find each other and safely escape. Lilybeth’s experience as a survivor dates back even further to the February 26, 1993 bombing of the World Trade Center, when she was forced to shelter in place for hours in pitch darkness with her colleagues. Lilybeth had the courage to visit the #911Memorial when it opened in 2011, 10 years after 9/11. She says, “As a survivor, I realize how life changes in the blink of an eye. I believe that I’m still here today, not by luck but by destiny.” Since joining the volunteer team last year, Lilybeth has found power in sharing her story, healing part of her trauma and its impact on her mental health, and feeling a deeper sense of purpose. #GlobalVolunteerMonth #911Museum
