Two of the most important Monet works ever to come to auction in France will soon head to #SothebysParis. Offered for sale 100 years after the painter’s death, these two landscapes have been held in private hands for 115 and 98 years, making this the first time they have been seen by the public in a century. ‘The Islands of Port-Villez’ is seen for the first time in color, known until now only through black and white photographs. Painted a few weeks after Monet moved to Giverny in the spring of 1883, this canvas signals his discovery of the surroundings that shaped the last 40 years of his life and work.
