Have you heard of Jane Delano? She was a nurse who founded the American Red Cross Nursing Service and was considered a pioneer of the modern nursing profession. ❤️ Throughout her life, Jane made many significant contributions to our mission like recruiting over 20,000 nurses. ❗ Due to the demand and lack of nurses during the Spanish-American War, Jane worked to increase enrollment of Red Cross nurses during military conflicts. Because of her work, there were 8,000 nurses registered available for duty when #WWI began in 1917. 📚 While with the Red Cross, Jane developed courses in Elementary Hygiene and Home Care for the Sick, and co-authored the textbook. 🩺 She also established a Red Cross nursing service that provided people living in rural areas across the country health care support.
