Today, “Portland’s Living Room” turned into Portland’s dance floor.
Holi, also known as the “Festival of Colors” is a holiday celebrating spring, love and triumph of good over evil. It’s also an ode to the love between two Hindu deities, Radha and Krishna. The Indian celebration has since spread to other parts of Asia and even Portland’s own Pioneer Square.
It’s the 16th year of the Portland Holi festival. Attendees are encouraged to wear white to embrace the colorful powder, known as gulal, thrown into the air to commence a crowd-wide dance.
Though the color throw may be the most notable attraction, it wasn’t the only one. The square welcomed a variety of food vendors, yoga, folk music, Bollywood performances and a DJ set to close out day one.
