125 Idaho National Guardsmen, Army Reservists and ROTC cadets earned the Norwegian Foot March badge Saturday. The test, which consists of a 30K (18.6 miles) hike with a pack weighing a minimum of 24 pounds, took place along Pleasant Valley Road near the Morley Nelson Snake River Birds of Prey National Conservation Area. It is a timed event with mandatory maximum times set by age group. Those who successfully complete the hike within the maximum time limit earn the right to wear the badge.
The test was first administered to Norwegian soldiers in 1915. Through active partnerships and relationship building with the Norwegian Armed Forces, the Idaho National Guard earned the privilege of administering the test here and awarding all those who successfully completed the challenge with the badge.
