On March 26, the State Aviation Group received a request for helicopter support with hoist capability to help evacuate a male who had broken his leg in a snowmobile accident near Carey Dome Lookout in Idaho County.
Idaho Army National Guardsmen responded in an HH-60 Black Hawk helicopter and lowered a soldier to the ground to secure the patient to a litter for evacuation. The patient was succuessfully evacuated and transferred to a LifeFlight helicopter at the Riggins High School field for further transport and care.
This marks the second successful search and rescue mission conducted by Idaho Army National Guard aviators in 2026. Both rescues took place just five days apart.
