During the opening night of her first-ever solo tour at Tabernacle in Atlanta, Hayley Williams performed a cover of Nina Simone's 1964 classic, "Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood.” ⁠ ⁠ Williams has paid homage to Simone previously in her work. A lyric in her song "True Believer" references Billie Holiday’s Civil Rights protest song "Strange Fruit,” of which Nina Simone famously did a rendition of. When Williams performed “True Believer” on The Tonight Show last year, her keyboard was draped with a cloth bearing the words "Mississippi Goddam,” a reference to another of Simone's songs.⁠ ⁠ Williams performed her latest album ‘Ego Death At A Bachelorette Party’ in full. For the closing track "Parachute," she brought out Josh Scogin, known for his work in '68, The Chariot, and Norma Jean.
