This previous weekend, the Los Angeles Asian Pacific Film Festival featured the remarkable short films of a group of talented Pasifika filmmakers with Armed With a Camera. (AWC) It is of utmost importance that our own Pasifika people tell our stories, and these films exemplify that beautifully. Let's meet these amazing individuals and learn about their short films! 🎬 We would like to extend an honorable mention to director, Kaleipumehana Cabral, who we missed at the fest. queerkanaka’s film, "Ka ‘ā’ume’ume: Navigating Home" tells the story of six kānaka ‘ōiwi as they navigate diaspora and return to their homeland, weaving a story of grief, hope, wisdom, and struggle. We would also like to recognize Peter’s second film, Fili. Witnessing our people thrive in these spaces is truly inspiring.
