11 years ago today, ‘Lip Sync Battle’ premiered on Spike TV. The musical reality competition took shape after John Krasinski, Emily Blunt and Stephen Merchant were brainstorming ideas for Krasinski’s appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon — ultimately leading Fallon to make it a recurring segment on his show. Eventually, the segment became its own project. The show became a major hit for Spike TV at the time, going on for a total of five seasons. It brought on celebrities to “lip sync battle” against each other, and then had audiences select the winner.
