Minimum wage in the UK is rising by 50p this week to £12.71 for over-21s.
For people aged 18-20, it is going up 85p to £10.85, and for under-18s and apprentices, it is rising by 45p to £8.
Young workers welcomed the rise, but some expressed concern that the number of available jobs could decrease.
The Low Pay Commission, the government agency which recommended the increases, said previous minimum wage rises for over-21s had "not had a significant negative impact on jobs".
