🎉🕊️ A remarkable milestone of strength and resilience Malka Horwitz, Miami-Dade County’s oldest verified living Holocaust survivor, celebrated her 110th birthday on Monday — a powerful reminder of resilience, history, and the strength of the human spirit. Born in Lithuania, Horwitz was just 25 years old when she was imprisoned in the Vilna Ghetto during World War II, a Jewish ghetto established by Nazi Germany in Vilnius. Reflecting on that unimaginable time, Horwitz shared with Jewish Community Services (JCS) of South Florida: “In ‘41 they came to take me and my husband, and my child was two-and-a-half years old.” Horwitz was separated from her young son, and many of her family members were killed during the Holocaust — including her husband, parents, and sister. After the war, she escaped Europe and found refuge in Cuba, later immigrating to the United States with her two children, where she rebuilt her life.
