The FBI has announced a new deployment under Operation Not Forgotten 2026, expanding personnel and investigative resources across Indian Country.
The “surge” includes additional agents, intelligence teams, and victim support staff assigned to assist unresolved violent crime cases — including Missing and Murdered Indigenous Persons (MMIP) investigations.
Now in its fourth year, the initiative builds on prior deployments supporting more than 700 cases. The FBI reports over 4,100 active investigations in Indian Country.
In the announcement, FBI Director Kash Patel referred to Tribal Nations as “revered communities” — a notable choice of language as federal agencies continue to define their relationship with Indigenous peoples.
The release also included a statement from Attorney General Pam Bondi, published the same day she was removed from her role.
