On Monday, 30 March, a group of toddlers who were evacuated as premature newborns only a month into the Israel-Hamas war were reunited with their families in Gaza. While the occasion was marked by immense relief, parents remain deeply concerned about their children's future within the devastated enclave.
The reunion at Khan Younis' Nasser Hospital offered a brief respite from the ongoing strikes and widespread displacement. For some parents, who have suffered injuries or lost family members during the war, this was the first time they were able to meet their children, having previously been unsure if they had even survived.
These children returned from Egypt via the partially reopened Rafah crossing as part of a larger group of Palestinians. Their journey began with a perilous relocation within Gaza after Shifa Hospital lost power and supplies, a period during which four infants tragically died.
