“The history of slavery remains a plague on our society.” Canadian spoken word artist and human rights activist shahaddahjack joined Barbados’ Poet Laureate Esther Phillips and other influential voices at a special General Assembly event marking #RememberSlavery Day at UNHQ earlier this week. Shahaddah Jack, Toronto's first Youth Poet Laureate, highlighted the importance of remembering slavery through the lens of those whose stories and legacies endure. “Our history is global history.
