TEEN RESCUED: A 15‑year‑old boy was rescued from sinking mud at the Wertheim National Wildlife Refuge in Shirley. Suffolk County aviation officers searched the area from the air while the teen remained on the phone with a 911 dispatcher using his cellphone flashlight to signal the helicopter. Once he was located, aviation officers guided Seventh Precinct patrol officers and Emergency Service Section units to his position.
