The more I listen to people talk about AI “killing” the design process, the more I realize we’re forgetting the timeless model of convergent and divergent thinking. It happens all the time, whether we’re conscious of it or not. It happens in milliseconds in our brains every time we make a decision. It even happens when an AI tool conducts research or performs a task—you just don’t see it. To those who think I’m diving too deep into these nuances: as a professional, I’d much rather “overthink” (aka think deeper) and then strip away what’s unnecessary, than “under-think” and not truly understand the impact of my work. Better to understand the “why” than to just click buttons 🙂 Better to understand “why” because AI will do repetitive tasks.
