Architectural renderings of a renovated Loew’s Jersey Theatre show the planned transformation of the 1929 landmark into a modern entertainment venue. The Journal Square theater in Jersey City, which sat largely unused for more than four decades, originally opened as one of five opulent “Wonder Theatres” in and around New York City. One of the most noticeable changes will be the removal of fixed seating on the ground floor to facilitate general admission and standing-room-only events, though portable seating can still be brought in for other types of performances. This will allow the theater to flex between approximately 2,600 and 4,000 guests. The venue is now expected to host approximately 150 events annually.
