Powell Award is presented to an individual who has shown exemplary effort and devotion in their contributions to the University of Guelph’s Department of Athletics. Doug served as head coach of the Gryphons Varsity Wrestling program for 32 seasons, earning three OUA Coach of the Year honours and leading the program to a pair of OUA titles. As a competitor, he was a U SPORTS champion and a two-time Olympian, representing Canada at the 1988 Games in Seoul and the 1996 Games in Atlanta. His induction into the Wrestling Canada Hall of Fame in 2005 is a testament to a truly remarkable career. Beyond the accolades, Doug's legacy is the positive impact he has had on every athlete, coach, and staff member he has worked alongside.
