I hope that sharing my story will help someone not fall into the trap of paying your contractor for work they have not done yet. Yes, I understand that you may have to give your contractor money up front as a down payment, so they can purchase material, etc (depending on the deal you make with them) but NEVER give them money in advance for work the have not completed yet. You may reason that you’re just paying them the money you were going to pay them anyway- NO. There is a chance they will lose motivation to work on your project since they have already been paid, why show up? Or they may even disappear on you altogether.
