April 8th is National Draw A Bird Day, but why draw one when you can print one? For today, Howard letterpress printed an image from an electrotype (copy of a woodcut) from the Lewis Winter Collection. This cut was made roughly 130 years ago and was never mounted on a piece of wood to make it type high to print. That is why it is sitting on a board and a short stack of paper to make it type high (0.918 of an inch) in order to be printed. The image from the cut depicts a bird sitting on a tree branch. This was printed with blue rubber base ink using our Washington hand press, which was made in 1852. #DrawABirdDay #SacHistoryMuseum #sacramento #museum #printing
