• The point guard’s job is to run the team and that takes skill, discipline, and practice. I’m seeing a lot of young players focused on score, score, score at the point guard position. And yes, you should be a scoring threat but it’s bigger than that. Before you score: Can you make the right pass? Can you call for the ball and go get it to start the offense? Can you communicate loudly and clearly, directing your teammates? Can you get into the paint and create for others? Can you facilitate different actions and sets? Do all of that first then score. And if you’re not there yet, that’s okay. Find a coach who will teach you the right way.
