A group of scientists found the needles on muddied boots and compared them to the DNA of individual junipers at the site where the remains of Mengqi Ji of Columbia, Missouri were found. The group of four compared the plant samples found on the accused's boots with vegetation at the grave site.The accused, Joseph Elledge was found guilty of the October 2019 murder of his wife, Mengqi Ji, and sentenced to 28 years in prison.
