Once the season starts, a lot of athletes assume training has to stop.
That usually leads to one of two problems.
They either undertrain, or they replace real strength work with things that just feel safer.
The biggest adjustment during the season is not intensity.
It is timing.
If your week is organized correctly, games and lifts can support each other. Most athletes keep two or three lifts per week, maintain the same core exercises, and reduce volume slightly while keeping intensity high.
The reason is simple.
You spent the offseason building capacity, strength, and tolerance for high workloads. If you remove that stimulus once the season begins, your ability to handle stress starts to drop.
Game demands stay high.
Preparation drops.
That is when performance dips and injuries begin to creep in.
In-season training is not about doing less.
It is about staying prepared for what the season asks of you.
