In 1848, Jyotirao Phule and Savitribai Phule started one of India’s first girls’ schools in Pune, challenging strong social opposition. Savitribai became India’s first female teacher, educating girls from all backgrounds.
Despite resistance, they continued their fight for equality. In 1873, Jyotirao founded the Satyashodhak Samaj to oppose caste discrimination.
Savitribai also worked for women’s rights and served plague patients selflessly, sacrificing her life.
Their legacy shaped women’s education and social reform in India.
