Kate Harpring's final chapter at Marist couldn't have been written any better. The nation's top-ranked girls basketball prospect broke the GHSA's all-time career scoring record, dropped 40 points in a state championship win and claimed the Naismith Award ā all in the span of a week.
For that, she's the AJC's 2026 Girls Basketball Player of the Year.
Harpring finishes her four-year run at Marist with 3,435 points, 1,000-plus rebounds and roughly 600 steals. She lost just six games and never dropped a home game after her freshman year. Now she heads to Chapel Hill as the highest-rated signee in North Carolina women's basketball history.
